Each year, the Carolinas Healthcare Public Relations & Marketing Society (CHPRMS) holds two annual conferences, and today, tomorrow, and Friday, I will be enjoying the sessions of the society’s fall conference. While I’m here, I’m hoping to be blogging away, sharing everything I learn with all of you fine people.
So far, today has been quite a success. We arrived at the lovely, beautiful Grove Park Inn around 10 a.m. and joined the conference just as the welcoming began.
Our keynote speaker, Steve Crescenzo, was just a laugh riot and an excellent speaker. He showed both horrible and wonderful examples of internal and external corporate communications in order to illustrate the need for real creativity and the difference it makes. He talked extensively about social media in addition to corporate communications and creativity. His most inspiring comments about social media were inspiring not because of what he said but because of how he said it. He didn’t discuss social media in a bubble. Far too often, speakers talk about social media like it’s the holy grail of marketing. Steve acknowledged what social media really is—one way among many to communicate and engage with customers. It was delightfully refreshing.
For our breakout session this afternoon, Lora and I went to listen to a social media panel discussion featuring Jodi Grabowski, Marketing Director at Park Ridge Hospital (one of our favorite clients). Jodi was asked to be a panelist because of her direct role in cultivating the blog, forums, and Facebook page we created for The Baby Place at Park Ridge. She eloquently shared some stumbling blocks and successes, some lessons learned and opportunities seized. She did a great job—Yay for Jodi!
Tonight, I’m looking forward to a really yummy dinner at Tupelo Honey, and tomorrow, I’m excited for more great conference sessions.
More blogging from me later.
