Just in case you missed this in The State:
We’re ‘Famously Hot’ — you’re not
Any other cities out there thinking about stealing Columbia’s Famously Hot slogan can now officially forget it. The Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports & Tourism has received a Certificate of Registration from the Patent and Trademark Office. Local leaders launched “Famously Hot” in August 2008 to create a community brand to help attract meetings, conventions, sports groups and visitors to Columbia. The play on words – developed by Columbia-based advertising firm ADCO – is meant to emphasize the assets, such as arts, nightlife and cuisine, of the city, which also is one of the hottest weather-wise in the Southeast. Unlike other branding the city has tried over the years, Famously Hot has caught on among business and government leaders.
Just in case you thought Columbia would never come up with a campaign that would catch on, well… it’s happening now, baby (insert smiley face here).
And it wouldn’t have happened without ADCO.
