Every year, AIGA, the professional association for design, holds a Leadership Retreat where representatives from each chapter get a chance to come together to share best practices, participate in fun leadership activities, meet lots of new people, and generally have a lot of fun. As the incoming president for the SC Chapter of AIGA, I was fortunate enough to once again attend this retreat, held in Omaha, Nebraska, for 2008.
I must admit, I had no idea what to expect from Omaha. I knew nothing about the city, other than that it produces a lot of corn and has a pretty cool zoo. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised—Omaha was a blast! What a fabulous city and a great place to have our retreat.
The retreat itself hosts design leaders from all over the world. It is a humbling experience to be surrounded by such great talent and diversity. I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful organization that cares so much about the people and the profession of design. If you have never been to an AIGA meeting or event, or are not familiar with the organization, make an effort to find the nearest chapter and participate—you won’t be sorry!
A big thanks goes out to the Nebraska Chapter for hosting this year’s retreat. I think I can speak for all of the attendees (at least according to all of the Facebook and flickr posts) that this was definitely one of the best retreats in recent history! I have come back to Columbia, energized and so excited about the future of our Chapter. A big Midwest salute to the Cornhusker state for being the hosts of such a fabulous event! Thanks!!!
