Last Friday, July 24, AIGA SC hosted a lunch program featuring Brian Singer, a designer who launched The 1000 Journals Project. Brian spoke about his experience with The 1000 Journals Project as well as other experimental social awareness projects he has been involved in.
If you’re wondering what The 1000 Journals Project is, wonder no longer. It’s an ongoing collaborative experiment attempting to follow 1000 journals throughout their travels. It was started in 2000 by Brian with the goal of providing a method for interaction and shared creativity among both friends and strangers.
The 1000 Journals Project has been very successful, gathering many interesting entries ranging from writings to drawings to things stitched into the pages with thread. Excerpts from some of the journals can be found at www.1000journals.com.
Keeping with the theme of journals at the AIGA SC event, blank journals were handed out so participants could express their own creativity. After Brian spoke, attendees purchased his book, The 1000 Journals Project, and requested his autograph. Brian also brought some of the journals that had been returned to him to share and let participants make their “mark” in the journals.
