Newsweek magazine has a current story headlined “Year of the Woman? Eight Jobs That Are Still Sexist.”
And what was job No. 1 on that list? Journalism.
“Aw, it was probably some dame who said that…”
Maybe that sounds a bit off-the-cuff to you, a bit dismissive, but hey, it was about as well-researched, and certainly as well thought-out, as the Newsweek piece, which was — as we have come to expect — stunningly facile.
And that’s the real story in American journalism. While newspapers everywhere struggle to do their jobs with vanishing revenues and slashed staffs, nowhere has the crisis manifested itself more powerfully than in the leading newsmagazines.
